Five Fall Wardrobe Essentials 2013 (Men)

[image taken from here; modified by me]
My previous post, Five Fall Wardrobe Essentials 2013 (Women), can also apply to men. Likewise, this post can apply to women, but I wanted to make two separate posts to give you a few more ideas when you're shopping for the autumn season.

1. Boots
After a season of flip flops and sandals, it's time to take out those boots and sneakers for fall. Converse sneakers are a classic for casual outfits. To substitute these casual shoes with a pair of more dressy ones, men can opt for a pair of desert boots that can be worn with both formal and informal outfits. Clarks is a popular, affordable brand, while Red Wing* offers a pricier option with sturdier boots.

* My boyfriend says they require a bit of breaking in because they hurt when you first wear/walk with them.

2. Button down shirt
A guy should own multiple button down shirts for different occasions. A chambray one for going out, a plaid or checkered one for weekends, and a dressier one for fancier occasions. Having multiple shirts in different colours and patterns can expand your wardrobe even if you only own a couple of pairs of pants. All it takes is a cardigan or blazer to layer on top to create a completely different look.

3. Light jacket
This criteria includes blazers, trenchcoats, denim jackets, and/or peacoats - whichever you're comfortable with and fits into your personal style. Mr. Porter (brother of Net-a-Porter) offers a great selection of high quality coats and jackets for men. Like with the button down shirt, a man should own a couple of light jackets for different occasions. A blazer is almost mandatory for dressy occasions, while a jacket of your choice (peacoat, anorak, etc.) should be worn on chilly days.

For the ladies who are interested, I love that this denim jacket from Oasap comes with a detachable hood. It gives the illusion that you're wearing a hooded sweater underneath giving your outfit a casual vibe. It's labeled as "one size", but I would categorize it as an XS.

4. Sweater
A simple, but polished look for men (imo) would be khakis, a collared shirt, and a crewneck or v-neck sweater on top. This look can be tweaked with simple changes to fit into specific occasions, but it looks like a comfortable outfit for almost anything. If I were a guy, it would be my favourite go-to outfit. If you're not sure where to look, ASOS offers a lot of affordable sweaters for men (and women) of all styles.

5. Dark wash jeans
My boyfriend owns many pairs of jeans (both in raw denim and regular denim) and they're my favourite things on him. I prefer seeing dark jeans in the fall and lighter jeans in summer, but I'm really not that picky about it. Dark jeans seem to go well with everything and I love how they fade with wear. It's important to remember that jeans don't need to be washed that often as they'll fade and break faster. A classic denim brand is Levis

    1. Hi Simon!! Thanks for checking this post out. :P It's hard to me to write about menswear, but when I do, I really enjoy it! I love ankle boots on everyone. Can't wait to see both men & women rocking them this fall.
