What's in My Makeup Bag + Fall 2013 Beauty Products

I love the idea of using a small purse as a makeup bag! This bag came with a detachable strap.

I stay over at my boyfriend's house every weekend, so I always have a makeup bag ready to bring back and forth between our places. There are some "essentials" I bought doubles of so that they're always available there, including eyeliner, mascara, and my eyebrow palette. Some of the items in the photo above are my current favourites.

In the Bag
Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation (#120)
Foundation isn't a part of my everyday routine, so this bottle is going to last me a very, very long time. I don't bring foundation to my boyfriend's house, but I added it to this photo because it's been one of my favourite products lately. This is probably the second foundation I've ever tried, but I don't need to try other brands anymore. The product lasts all day and gives my skin a nice glow.

Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Multi-Use Foundation Powder (#120)
I use this as a setting powder over my foundation or CC cream. On the days I'm not wearing those, I just use this powder as a very sheer foundation. The powder is buildable and gives a great matte finish that doesn't look "cakey" at all.

Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Concealer (#330)
If you haven't noticed already, I'm a big MUFE fan. I've been using this concealer for years after a reader suggested it. I was looking for a concealer that doesn't cast a white glow around your eyes in photos and this concealer not only fits that criteria, but it's lightweight and provides great coverage as well.

Sephora Collection Colorful Blush (Orange Pop)
A little goes a long way with this blush because the powder is well-pigmented. I was looking for a nice coral-y shade to replace my old E.L.F. blush in Candid Coral. So far, I haven't experienced any problems with this, but it's just blush, right? There isn't much I need to add to this description except that I wish it cost half the price!

Dior Addict Lip Glow
This actually goes in my purse, but again, I added it to the photo to show it. My friend suggested this lip balm when I was looking for one that doesn't make my lips peel. According to the description, the product "reacts with the chemistry of your lips to create a special shade that will last all day". I can attest to the fact that the shade of pink varies across lips, but this definitely doesn't last all day. I'm always eating, drinking, or talking so it's rare for a lip product to stay on for an entire day. I really like the mild scent of this lip balm, but it does make my lips feel "peely" at times.

My next lip balm purchase is going to be the Marc Jacobs Lip Lock Moisture Balm.

I never thought I'd be putting orange on my lips, but it happened! The shade surprisingly looks okay on me and I'm definitely open to trying other orange-y lip shades in the future. This lip stain is long-lasting, even after drinking and eating.

Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream (Light)
I used to rave about Smashbox's BB Cream, but when the CC came out only months after I bought the BB, I decided to try it. The CC cream is slightly creamier than the BB cream, while the BB coverage is a little more sheer. I prefer the CC cream because of its promises of colour correction ("CC") and it gives me a less oily look compared to the BB.

Derek Cardigan Tortoiseshell Glasses (#7014)
I switch these glasses between my Prada ones once in a while. I've had them for a while now and I love the shapes, size, tortoiseshell colour, and the math symbols on each eye (as seen on me). Canadian residents can get a free pair of glasses from Clearly Contacts if it's your first time ordering! Read their FAQs or contact them for more details about this promotion.

I'm also excited to announce that Clearly Contacts will be opening their first Toronto store this month! The store will be located at 315 Queen St. West (beside the Much building). I can't wait to share more details and photos with you.

Not in the Bag
Cover Girl Clump Crusher Mascara (Black)
I forgot to add mascara to the bag because I already have a duplicate at my boyfriend's house.  I haven't purchased mascara in a long time because I always receive samples in the mail (which I'm totally grateful for!). I've tried so many brands (with Sephora and Smashbox being my faves), but this particular "Clump Crusher" mascara is rounding out my top 3. I was surprised at how long it holds curl (a whole day)! The fact that it's clump-free had me sold. The fact that it's under $10 will have me coming back again (probably for the "Very Black" this time).

Dior J'adore Eau de Parfum
For the longest time, I was looking for a mature, classy, "signature" scent for myself. I randomly came across a sample of this fragrance while I was perusing Elle Magazine and fell in love. A small spritz is all that's needed to add a light scent to yourself. Another scent I became a fan of while shopping for this was by Balenciaga. I have no idea what it's called, but I'll let you know when I find out.

Acuvue Oasys Contact Lenses
My contact lenses are pretty much an essential. I enjoy wearing glasses, but I need to wear contacts when I go out so that I can wear sunglasses. I've used Acuvue lenses for as long as I can remember and I have nothing bad to say about them. The lenses are comfortable and never dries my eyes out (unless, of course, you wear them for longer than recommended).

  1. I got a free pair of Derek Cardigan glasses from Clearly Contacts too. They're the same size as yours but black. I realy really like them! Might pay for your tortoiseshell ones too. They're so cute!

  2. I love your tortoiseshell glasses! And I'm a big fan of the revlon just bitten lip stains. I've never tried that orange-red shade but it looks gorgeous.

    1. Before I tried this, I didn't know I could pull off an orange shade! You should definitely give it a shot. : )

  3. Interested in why you don't use Asian bb cream? (since you're Asian) Their formulas usually work with most Asian skin tones. I'm a fan of Korean brand ones.

    1. I've used Skin79 before, but the shade was really pale on me. I'm not completely devoted to the Smashbox brand, so I'm open to any suggestions you may have!
