Summer 2013 Trend: White

Lately, I've been wearing very basic colour palettes in my outfits. Examples include white on white, achromatic, neutral colours, grey on grey, and black on black. Some might call it boring, but it's a break from all the bright colours that people always associate with spring and summer. Wearing white is one of the biggest trends this spring/summer 2013 and it really is a breath of fresh air. Don't be fooled by how "simple" it looks though! The white on white trend involves different textures (leather, lace, etc.), transparencies, and structures. How will you be wearing it this summer?

How to Fake a Romper

H&M Divided lace tank top (similar) // Oasap high-waisted lace shorts (c/o)
Alexander Wang Rockie (Tundra) // ASOS double finger rings (similar)

This outfit can be added to the combinations created in my "What to Wear with High-Waisted Shorts" post. I paired two lace pieces together to create a "romper" look, but after looking at these photos, I realize I should've at least tucked the shirt in (and maybe added a waist belt) to make it look more convincing. Rompers are a cute idea, but they're very inconvenient in the washroom. This "DIY" method of making a romper with two pieces can save you both time and money (that you would've otherwise spent on purchasing a romper).

On another note, have you watched Despicable Me 2 yet? (Or plan to?) The Minions and their language are so adorable! My boyfriend & I collected the complete Canadian set of the Minion Happy Meal toys at McDonald's this month. (And P.S. Happy Meals are soo worth it at $3.99!)

Two Coupon Codes That Expire Tomorrow

Shopbop is offering 25% off all sale items with the code SALE25 (ends July 24th @ 11:59PM PT) and ModCloth is offering 15% off all orders with the code WOOF15 (ends July 24th @ 10AM PT).

My Shopbop picks:

I own both of T by Alexander Wang items listed above in size XS. The tank top runs a size bigger, but I shrank it in the washer/dryer. It's great for casual wear and the price can't be beat. The dress is shift-style and hits a couple of inches above the knee on me. Both items are super soft! I ordered the leather leggings in size 24 to try on. The general consensus seems to be that the quality is great for vegan leather and they run 1-2 sizes small.

My ModCloth picks:

I've always been a fan of ModCloth's cute and eccentric pieces. The bat skirt is so adorable! It's on my watch list as I think about how often I'd be wearing it. If you're going to a summer wedding and not sure where to look for dresses, I recommend ModCloth for their huge selection of both casual and formal dresses.

Will you be picking anything up from these sales?

Grey Accessories (and a Haul Video)

Alexander McQueen silk-chiffon skull scarf (grey/black) // T by Alexander Wang Classic Pocket Tank (Fiji)
Garage white denim shorts // Alexander Wang Rockie (Tundra) // Dolce Vita Cybele Sandals (Nude)

I've been really into collecting "unique" basics lately. Unique (to me) being bright colours, different patterns, asymmetry, and so on. These little characteristics make it easier for even the laziest person to add a simple pop of interest/colour/whatever to their outfits without over-accessorizing. This top is one of my recent purchases from Shopbop. Watch my Instagram video for the rest of my haul from the past month or so. Let me know if you have questions about any of the items!

Classic Summer Outfit

Levi's cut-off shorts (DIY) // Daniblack Violet Pony Hair Wedges

The classic "t-shirt & shorts" outfit can be a little more interesting when paired with a hat and the right shoes. I Instagram'd a similar variation of this outfit last week with my new purse wearing grey jeans instead of shorts. Groundbreaking, I know. There have been a few "extreme heat alerts" in Toronto lately and I haven't been putting much effort into my outfits. All I wanna do is sit at home beside my A/C. Hope you're all having a fun & memorable summer!

What to Wear with High Waisted Lace Shorts

In a previous post, I asked readers to offer ideas on how to style lace shorts. I took a few of the ideas and snapped some quick cellphone shots in the hopes of inspiring those who have trouble deciding on what to wear with these shorts. I know there is a lack of colour in the outfits, but those who know me will know that my wardrobe does lack a lot of bright colours. Regardless, I had a lot of fun playing dress-up in my own closet. Both pairs of lace shorts will look great with bright blouses and tops as well, but I'll leave that to your imagination as I don't own too many colourful tops. : )

Both pairs of high waisted lace shorts are on sale at Oasap. The coupon code TLDP may provide further discount.

Outfit 2 - Mexy Contrast Top (c/o) // Expression nude pumps via Hudson's Bay
Outfit 3 - Zara necklace (similar) // Gap pocket tee // H&M cropped blazer (similar) // Zara mid-heel court shoes
Outfit 4 - H&M leather vest (similar) // StyleMint Berlin T // Jean-Michel Cazabat Rica Wedges (on sale!)
Outfit 5 - Zara army green jacket (similar; 30% off first-time orders) // Gap Favourite short-sleeve scoop T // Call It Spring wedges
Outfit 6 - Sheinside sleeveless pocket blouse (c/o) // Expression nude pumps via Hudson's Bay

I showed more combinations with the white shorts because I find them harder to style. Black shorts can be worn with almost anything! Below is another outfit combination I previously wore with my lace shorts.
Thank you to the ladies who contributed their ideas for this post! You can find their suggestions in this blog post and this Instagram photo.

Which outfit (above) would you wear? And how else would you style these shorts? Launches in Canada (with coupon code!) is a very popular online destination for finding affordable UK fashion that is always on trend. After years of serving thousands of customers worldwide, the store is finally available for Canadians. I was unable to attend their Canadian launch party a couple of weeks ago (thanks to NKPR), but I had the great pleasure of experiencing their website firsthand. The site is easy to navigate because everything is organized into categories. There are also hundreds of customer reviews available, which makes picking out items a lot more easy.

One of my favourite parts about the website is their curated collections of the season's trends. Two of my favourite collections right now are the Geo Traveller and the Pure White collections. My choices are polar opposite, but I think they go very well together. The idea of a clean (white) slate with a statement geometric piece sounds quite eye-catching (see below). Although I didn't purchase from either collection this time around, I'm excited to try it out with existing pieces in my wardrobe this summer.

Aritzia Spring & Summer Sale

I always get excited when Aritzia has their seasonal sales. Things are sold at regular price most of the year, so you can bet that girls go wild during sale season. I've seen hauls that range anywhere from $50 to $1000! One of my favourite things about Aritzia (besides the fact that it's based in Canada) is that most of their styles come in XXS. Their clothing fits my body type perfectly without the need for shrinking in the washer/dryer.
When I received the invitation to their private sale, I spent a long time on their website deciding on what to purchase. The items in my cart added to almost $700, so I took a break and decided to come back to my cart later. Here are some of the items that caught my eye:
Wilfred Diderot Sweater (heather grey) // I've been wanting this sweater for the past couple of years, but was never able to justify the price. The sweater is long enough to cover the bum, which is perfect for wearing with leggings.
Babaton Harper Blouse (lavande) // I love the muted colour of this blouse. The drape gives it a very classy & sophisticated look that can be worn with skinny jeans or trousers.
Wilfred Free Libre T-Shirt (heather grey) // One of my favourite tees at Aritzia is the Babaton Ace T-Shirt because of the fit, feel, & drape. I love the oversized look of this Wilfred Free top, but I have too many tees so this is out of the question (for now).
Wilfred Mabillon Jacket (white mix) // I love the look of this collarless blazer with contrast edges. I think it's the perfect jacket for dressing up and down.
Mackage Ibbie Leather Shorts // Mackage is a brand that I've long admired. I want every leather piece they make, but my wallet says otherwise. These lambskin running shorts are simple, yet sport chic, which is one of this year's biggest trends.
Wilfred Free Rebelle Pant // These leather pants come in five colours. I would snatch the black ones up immediately if I didn't already own a pair of leather pants.
Wilfred Minou Camisole // I've been into both metallics and tank tops lately. I love silky shine of this cami because it'll make a statement if layered under sweaters or blazers.
Talula Mercer T-Shirt // I rarely pick out printed tops when I shop, but this tee is pretty plain and I like the cheeky statement on it. Also digging the Talula Oleta Shorts on the model.

All sale items cannot be returned or exchanged.
