Review: Old Navy Ponte-Knit Dresses

I took advantage of Old Navy's promo for 40% off all dresses the other day by ordering three dresses that I thought had potential. The dresses were ordered Wednesday night and I received the package on Thursday morning! Talk about fast service... Since these dresses are new arrivals, I wanted to quickly write about them in case anyone else was interested. Measurements and my thoughts are down below. : )
• {Returned} Fit & Flare Dress (Neon dress above; not worn)
Regular size XS measurements: 14" shoulder, 14.5" bust, 12" waist, 33.5" length.

The dress fit me okay, but it wasn't as expected so I returned it. The bust was a little too big on me and the sleeves were awkward. I love the scoopneck style on the back though. There are no zippers so it may be a tight squeeze for some, but the ponte material is stretchy enough for you to get your upper body through.

{Debating} Ponte-Knit Shift Dress (Dark Gray; left in my photo)
Petite size XS measurements: 9.5" shoulder, 14" bust, 12" waist, 34" length
57% cotton, 38% polyester, and 5% spandex

{Returned} Ponte-Knit Shift Dress (Black; right in my photo)
Petite size XS measurements: 9.5" shoulder, 14" bust, 12" waist, 35.75" length
73% polyester, 24% rayon, and 3% spandex

The lighting in my photo wasn't great, so refer to the stock photos for each dress's true colour. I find it odd how the grey dress fit me well, but the black one was overall looser, thinner, and a little long on me. Even the waist was a bit lower than on the gray version. The material of the gray dress was noticeably tighter and thicker. I wonder why they chose to make the "same" dress in different countries and with different materials?

I'm returning both the neon and the black dresses, but I'm debating on whether to return the grey one or not. Although the grey one fits well, the bust darts stick out weirdly and I'm trying to figure out how I can fix that. Do you guys have any suggestions? If I keep it, I'm also going to taper the skirt part.

Let me know if you decide to try these dresses out! OId Navy offers free shipping (over $50) and free returns, so it won't hurt to order. : )

  1. I love overnight shipments! =) Old Navy items are so cute, but I hardly find anything that fits me. I actually tried the fit-n-flar dress and I had the same problem as you, too much room in the bust and it was a bit long as well.

    1. The fit & flare would definitely look good on someone with a longer torso! I agree with you about Old Navy's items. It's rare finding a piece that fits well, but when I do, I really love the piece!

  2. What material are these dresses made out of? I've had bad experiences with ON items in the past because a lot of them are made of rayon and viscose, which washes and wears really badly over time.

    Another Beautiful Thing

    1. Hey Brittany, the composition of the dresses are already listed above. : ) The black one has rayon in it, while the grey one has cotton. Odd how they're composed of different materials!
