Spring 2014 Trend: Long Coats

I've been seeing more and more fashion bloggers, "off duty" models, and runway looks with long coats lately. The popular choice is wool, but there are also fur, tweed, and other variations. I think the right coat can be a classic piece, if the appropriate colour, fabric, and style are chosen. Each of us has a different take on what these might be, which is why everyone would be able to find something that suits their taste.

A long coat has been on my sartorial bucket list for about two years now, but I haven't put much energy into looking for one because I own a lot of leather jackets. Lately though, I've been itching to get something a little more streamlined and less edgy to add to my coat collection. I'd like one in a classic neutral colour with few buttons (or a hidden zipper), no belt, no (or maybe small) lapels, and the length should hit somewhere mid-thigh.

I already own this belted coat from Sheinside, which I love, but it's more suitable for winter since it's really thick. I just ordered this grey coat and can't wait to receive it for spring! Judging from the number of customer photos in the description, it's a really popular piece. Stay tuned because there will also be a giveaway for this jacket as well. ; )

What do you guys think about this trend?

Check out some of these coats from a few of my favourite stores!

  1. I got the J Crew lady day coat this year after reading all the rave reviews from multiple fashion bloggers. Its really good quality. Even though its described as hitting mid thigh, it actually hits above knee for me in the petite sizing. I'm 5'2". I saw this morning g that its on sale for additional 50% off sale price!

    1. I'm about the same height as you! I tried the J Crew coat on before, but it didn't work out. The petite one fit well, but the sleeves were too short; whereas the regular one was too big. Sigh... :(

  2. I know! I'm so loving the long coat trend and I just ordered a dusty pink color one which I hope to rock out during the last portion of this winter! Thanks for sharing this, it's given me some ideas on how to style mine!
Now following you on GFC, would you mind following me back?

    1. I've been seeing the pink coat trend a lot lately! I don't think the colour looks good on me, but I think it'll look amazing on you!

  3. I really never like brown but the light brown trench coat (pic 1) is fabulous!
